12 miles? On what planet? I'm lucky if I can go 1/2 mile before the signal on these things starts to break up!! Although, for $20 I'm not the least bit surprised. You get what you pay for in this world. I'll keep them to use around the office, but I will not be cancelling my Nextel service any time soon! If I had any kids, I would give these to them to use as toys! LOL! :-D
If you plan on communicating over more than 1/2 mile or in a multi-level high-rise, do yourself a favor and get some real jobsite radios. These just won't cut it.Get more detail about Uniden GMR1235-2 2-Way 12 Mile 2 Pack GMRS/FRS Radios.
