A couple years ago I lost my old Leatherman Wave. I really liked that multitool, it was the best I'd had ever used. So, I purchased the new style Wave. After about a week I started to notice a lot of nit picky things I didn't like about it. I like the fact that it has locking blades like the old Wave, I like that even the tools lock, unlike the old Wave. At first I liked that you could put it in the new style belt sheath in the open and ready to go position. This was good for a week or so, then I couldn't get it out one day when I needed it without nearly tearing it out. Seems it got stuck on some loose threads around the hole in the bottom. Then closing it brings about another problem. If you close it in a certain manner and get the pliers to come in contact with the tool with the removable bit, it'll get stuck big time and require the Incredible Hulk to open it again. Speaking of the removable bits, I broke the flimsy "glasses" screwdriver bit after the second time I used it. I was using it like I used the tiny slotted tool in the old Leatherman Wave on European style electrical connections. Apparently you can't do this, even though I'd been doing this for years with the tiny bit in the old Wave. I complained to Leatherman and after complaining and then re-complaining they sent me two replacements. Within a year I'd broken both of those. Oh, and the phillips/slotted removable bit, I managed to loose it after about a year. It just fell out somewhere. I then bought a multibit set and did pretty good with those, very handy and I only lost one more bit, seems the receptacle on the knife where the bits insert into got loose and bits now will fall out if you leave them in there long enough. So I quit leaving bits in there and haven't lost another. The only really great thing I like about this multitool over the old Wave is that you can buy a pocket clip for it. I really like this.
So, I went on Ebay and bought an old style Wave. I'm in heaven again! I miss the multiple bits and the pocket clip, but I can now use the tiny screwdriver bit again like I used to and the combination of a phillips and several slotted bits work fine for me 90% of the time. I can now close it without being paranoid about jamming it closed again. I'd really recommend this multitool to someone if they are light users and not using it on a job where they need it a dozen times a day, but if you need an extremely rugged and "high traffic" multitool, find an old style Wave or try something else.
