I received this as a gift, and thought it might be helpful for finding my way back to the car in a large parking lot. But, the first few times I used it, I found that it took so long to acquire a signal, that I could find my car much faster than it could acquire the signal thus rendering it useless to me.
When I got an opportunity to use it at an airport parking lot, I turned it on as soon as I got outside to catch the airport shuttle. It took about ten minutes to acquire the signal (I was either outside or in the shuttle bus during this time), acquiring it just moments before I got off of the bus to find my car. But, I was confused by why it said I was 9.2 miles from my car. I kept it on, and soon realized that it thought my car was at home even though I know that I had (meant to) set it in the airport parking lot. This brings me to another gripe that I have with the unit: unless you are experienced with this unit, it may not be obvious whether or not you have successfully marked a location. It would be helpful if it tells you, in words, that you just marked a location. Instead, it shows a circle of arrows and sets the distance to 0. The problem is that if you do NOT successfully mark a location, it does not suggest to you that you did not and if you don't know what to look for, well, then you'll find out when you're confused upon looking for marked location.
A few other issues I have: (1) the back is difficult to remove. (2) the direction pointer is fairly sensitive to how level you're able to keep the unit.
I will continue to try this out in other situations -- say to mark a trail head when I hike. But, unfortunately this product will give little more than frustration if you expect it to find your way from a store to your car.Get more detail about Bushnell GPS BackTrack Personal Locator.
